Conversation right now is all weather, all the time! A week like the one we're in is a reminder of how how little control we have over circumstances. I'm reminded of a Peanuts comic strip that featured Snoopy on top of his dog house when it started to snow. The flakes came gently at first, then faster. Snoopy stood up, kicked at them and thought (he didn't talk), "Stop it! Stop this stupid snowing!" The last frame in the strip showed Snoopy completely covered with snow and offering a resigned sigh.
Who can stop the snow, or make it start? Who can control the temperature, low or high? We are among the creatures of this earth the most fragile. Our only defense is to build ourselves comfortable nests and stay inside them.
I'm especially aware in this kind of weather of those who have no nests, for whatever reason, and pray for them to make good choices and seek help. I'm also aware of those who go out into this weather to do the jobs that serve me -- police, fire fighters, postal delivery, road crews, utility workers and others -- thanks to you all!
This is a day to eat soup, gather your household members close and be thankful for your comfort and safety. Weather changes from day to day but home goes on and on.
